PROBLEMS OF THE DISTANCE LEARNERS

                             
1..As the name suggests, distance learners feel a sense of isolation or simply' feel a distance that virtually distances them from the institution where they took part in a program course. As contact is minimal, the sense of belonging is lost. The learner never feels that' there is an institution that cares for me.'1 can seek support whenever I am in real trouble. This is the very psychological issue.

2.Distance learners usually suffer from emotional trauma and are vulnerable to social difficulties when admitted to the ODL institutions-managed program. There are no opportunities for them to study together and develop close interactions with other fellows pursuing the same course. The emotional problem can not be solved.

3. One of the common problems that the learners face is the failure of distance educational institutions to respond to their queries / dubts. Suppose the institution dispatches the study materials to the learners with a procrastination. Or it has happened that some learners were sent wrong packs of materials. The moment learners contact the institution to help them with what they can do, it is very ironic that they may not receive any response from the ODL institution's side. Ultimately, this creates negative impression about the institution in the students ' minds. Obviously, this situation is demoralizing and demotivating them.

4.Even if the problem is not the dispatch of materials, problems may arise in responding to their assignments, especially the first assignment. At this juncture, students need the guide service. They can get the necessary guidance and assistance from their tutors / counsellors / mentors, provided they can contact each other. This may be sorted out during the contact-cum-counselling sessions at the centers of the study. Here's an issue. The location of study centers, the distance covered by travel time, money and constraints may not allow some of the students to attend the contact sessions.
